Industrialist Ratan Tata’s long-pending veterinary hospital project will be built in the Mahalaxmi area in South Mumbai.

Industrialist Ratan Tata is also known for his undying adoration for animals, especially dogs. The businessman has often posted photos of dogs and advocated for the rights of furry, four-legged friends.

Taking the octogenarian’s vision to build an animal hospital, Tata Trusts recently announced the upcoming launch of the country’s first state-of-the-art Small Animal Hospital in the Mahalaxmi area of South Mumbai. The health care centre for animals will have a capacity of more than 200 beds.

This hospital by Tata, a 5-storey hospital of 98,000 square feet, is being built to construct health care facilities for animals. The project is upcoming on land allotted by MCGM (Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai)

At the upcoming centre, the focus will be on specialised treatments by globally renowned veterinarians, trained nurses, and technicians with a human approach to quality care.

Commenting on the upcoming launch, Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts said, “Pets are our family, and their lives matter to every pet parent. When I looked around and saw the lack of infrastructure for pets in India, it made me wonder why, in such a large country with a significant pet population, we cannot have a facility that can save lives and make pets’ lives better. The Small Animal Hospital aims to be one such facility with specialised facilities to provide every pet with care, love, and a human approach.”

Built on land allocated by MCGM (Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai), the hospital is the first of its kind and spans over 98,000 square feet across 5 floors with a capacity of over 200 beds.

The facility will provide round-the-clock services through pet-sensitized veterinarians, nurses, and technicians trained to deliver quality care with a mission to save lives. The hospital will be launched in March 2024.

The launch will be phased with a few facilities, including Emergency & Critical Care triage and treatment services; Inpatient and ICU units (including isolation units); Surgical Services (Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopedics, etc.); Pharmacy Services; Support Functions such as Diagnostics – Radiology & Imaging (MRI, X-Ray, CT Scan & USG), Laboratory – Hematology, Microbiology, Cytology, Clinical Pathology, Biochemistry, Histo-pathology, and Anaesthesia.
